Gesturing – the way to talk?

Babies-twins start communicating long before they start using language. It is very important that parents could understand the gestures of their babies. For example at the age of 12 months twins show the object they want to take with their finger. With the lapse of time the signification of this gesture changes meaning the child wants to hear your opinion about the indicated object. 18-months child points at the dog not because it wants to get the pet, but because it wants you to react to this dog. If you want your baby to feel good during conversation you should study the gestures of your baby. Then the baby will also study your language.

Gestures are developed during the whole childhood of twins and they play much more important role in the life of twins than in the life of ordinary children. For example, the 4years child tries to tell you about the visit to the doctor and doesn't know the word to indicate some kind of apparatus. Then the child may use the gesture showing what the doctor was doing with the apparatus the name of which he/she doesn't know.

When your twins tell you about something, it is important not only to listen to them but also to watch their gestures. This holds true for children whose talking skills are not enough developed.
