As the average age of women who give birth to children rises (especially in well-developed countries) the possibility of giving birth to twins also rises. In 1990 38 women of the USA at the age of 45-49 became the mothers of twins. In 1997 there were already 444 such women. From 1980 to 1996 there was no woman of 50-54 who gave birth to twins. In 1997 50 women gave birth to twins and 13 women gave birth to triplet babies.

But the main reason of the increase of the number of twins is the increase of the number of babies that are born with a bad weight as well as the increase of premature birth.

But according to doctors the main reason of increase of the number of twins is the result of the modern methods of treatment of women. 80% of twins are born as the result of these methods.

18-20% of twins are left-handed. The identical twins have similar encephalogram. There is even the science that investigates the phenomenon of twins called gemellology. Very often twins speak with each other using unknown for other people language.

The thing that may be said for sure is that you need to be patient with your twins because they are usually very active and if they do something wrong, they do it together, that means you'll have twice more harmful consequences.

But don't be scared, twins like all other children are very nice children that love their parents and each other, at least you won't worry that your child has no friend or somebody to talk to.

Twins are also mysterious creatures. Sharing the mother's belly gives them supernatural connection with each other.
